Fat Bottom Bakery’s Last Hurrah!

Dear friends of Fat Bottom Bakery,
After more than three incredible years, Carolynn and Ashley have decided to retire from the cupcake biz at the end of this year and move on to other ventures.
Yes, it’s true, no more Fat Bottom Bakery– but don’t shed too many tears. Our legacy will live on through our good friends at Black Spring Coffee Company, who we’ll be passing our recipes along to!
And of course, we fully expect our last month to be the best ever! Towards that end, we’ve planned a super fabulous party where you all can celebrate with us and we can publicly thank you for all your amazing support over the years. See the flier below, spread the word, and we truly hope to see you at Black Spring on December 11th!
Much love and many thanks,
Ashley and Carolynn

The East Bay Vegan Baksale is Back!

We are beyond excited top be presenting another installment of the East Bay Vegan Bakesale next month, July 14th in front of Issues off Piedmont Avenue!

This bakesale will benefit two very worthy organizations: Bad Rap (who we’ve been told will be bringing ambassador pitbulls to the party!), and Girl Army, Oakland’s women-run, peer taught self-defense collective.

Please join us! Whether it’s to volunteer, bring some treats to donate, or just to eat, we want to see you there!

If you’re interested in getting involved, please find us on facebook, or send an email to ebveganbakesale@gmail.com

Look at us, we’re the new Brooklyn!

Er, we’ll take that to mean that Oakland is the greatest and has the most wonderful vegan options, because you can’t argue with that!

We’re delighted to be included on this list from VegNews Magazine of 11 places that help make Oakland the new ‘vegan mecca’, along with our friends Hella Vegan Eats and the brand new Olde Depot Public House (where our beer-infused cupcakes and chocolate stout brownies can now be found, cough cough).

Thanks VegNews!

And be sure to check out all the other places on this list too– and feel free to report back on your favorites!

April Fools’ Pop-Up at Commonwealth!

Well it’s been a little while (ok, quite awhile) since we posted, but we’re very excited to announce our next event– the April Fools’ Day Pop-up at Oakland’s Commonwealth Cafe & Public House with our friends Hella Vegan Eats!

We’ll have 2 (or 3?!) different festive flavors, including vegan “funfetti” and mystery surprise! Hella Vegan Eats will have a variety of delicious offerings, as always, and of course the Commonwealth will be providing everyone with beer, wine and coffee.

We hope to see you there, and promise to be better about updating you all on our goings-on! We’ve got a few other events in the near future that we’re really looking forward to, so check back soon for details.

The Valentine’s Special is here!

Fat Bottom Bakery’s ever-popular Valentine’s Day special is back, and better than ever! This year, surprise your sweetie or treat your friends to a dozen or half dozen of our delicious cupcakes, available in your choice of chocolate with raspberry frosting and a chocolate ganache drizzle, or vanilla cake with raspberry frosting and fresh berries.

Cupcakes are $30 for 1 dozen, or $18 for a half dozen.

Orders will be available for pickup at our Oakland location between 10am and 3pm on Valentine’s day, or from 5-7pm the day before, (2/13). Let us know what time of day you prefer and we’ll be happy to set up a pickup time for you.

Orders for delivery will go out on Valentine’s Day between 12 noon and 6pm. Please provide a contact number for the recipient, and let us know if we can leave the cupcakes for them if they are not available when we deliver. Cupcakes can be delivered within Oakland and Berkeley.

Your order must be received by the end of the day on Sunday, 2/10. To order, please email us at fatbottombakers@gmail.com, and tell us what you’d like to order, whether you’d like delivery or pickup (and if pickup, time you prefer).

Treats on a bike, treats in a tea shop

Happy almost-winter, everyone!

We had a good time on Friday filling our delivery bike full of cupcakes and taking it out for a spin to the last Art Murmur of the year. It was dark, so, uh, the pictures are kind of dark too, but look how tasty those cupcakes are, and how snugly they were tucked into the sliding drawers of the bike trailer!

So long for now, Art Murmur! We’ll see you next year.

In the meantime, as the days get shorter and the weather gets gloomier, why not hit up new local tea shop and cafe Tea Here Now for a warm drink and some cookies or scones? Just a reminder. Sure, we may be a little biased, but we really think Tea Here Now is the best! Go check it out, and tell us what your favorite tea-and-treat-combo is.

Tea Here Now brining tea and treats to downtown Oakland!

We are SO excited to be working with the brand new tea shop, Tea Here Now in Oakland! They just opened last week for limited hours, and are now open daily from 7:30am to 3:30 pm! In addition to scores of wonderful, high-quality teas, they are also serving a variety of Fat Bottom Bakery scones and cookies! Including our new shortbread cookies, only available at Tea Here Now. Who could resist a little ‘butter’ cookie with their cup of tea?

From their website:

It’s no secret that life is busy and moves fast. Tea Here Now was born of a craving for a slower pace, warm space, and respite for reflection as a part of our daily routine. Savored sips, noticed nibbles, and cultivated community are what Tea Here Now is all about. We hope you join us to share a cup of tea, small meal, and a mindful moment.

If you go in for a cup of tea and, AHEM, maybe a pastry or five, you’ll be greeted by lovely proprietor and tea expert Andrea, who you can be sure will guide you to the perfect cup to brighten your day.

So go check it out sometime this week, Oaklanders– we promise you’ll love it!

Tea Here Now is located at 1721 1/2 Webster Street, at 17th Street.

Oh yeah, “like” them on Facebook while you’re at it, too! Andrea’s been known to offer some sweet deals, including the occasional free FBB cookie.

Good Eggs Picnic, Saturday the 27th

We’re excited to take part in the inaugural Good Eggs picnic this Saturday! Taking place in San Francisco at Dolores Park, picnicers can pre-order a wide array of items this week from the Good Eggs website (click here), which will be available for pickup and enjoyment on Saturday!

From their website:

“On October 27th, celebrate Fall (better known as our late summer) with an awesome picnic in the park!
Pre-order your basket by Friday, October 26th and we’ll do the packing so you can do the relaxing! Pick up your basket (it’ll come in your very own Good Eggs tote bag) at Dolores Park — then stick around for free drinks and chat with our amazing farmers & foodmakers… or go meet your friends elsewhere and show off your tasty treats.”

FBB will be offering a cookie assortment, including three of our favorite classic cookie flavors (chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, and oatmeal) for the very affordable price of $4! Place your order for these babies this week and look forward to a delicious Saturday.

Wedding cupcakes… for my own wedding!

So, this past Saturday I got married. It was beautiful and wonderful, and of course would not have felt right without some Fat Bottom cupcakes and cake for dessert. Luckily, I’ve got an in with the bakery (being one half of it myself) and got exactly what I wanted. Check it out!

I’ll do a longer post when we get more photos back and are more fully recovered from wedding weekend madness, but for now, I couldn’t resist these two!
